What is CBD?

What is CBD?

Now, we know you’re not here for a botany lesson. We’re reluctant to even describe what botany even is, but we’re going to have to get, er, a little botanical if we’re going to explain what CBD is and maybe dispel a few misconceptions about it.

But first, the big ideas: CBD is not a drug, it’s not addictive and it won’t get you high. It’s simply not built for that. Now, if that’s all you needed to hear from us, then, by all means, click on some links and proceed straight to the shopping cart. For clarification, read on.

CBD is short for cannabidiol, a compound derived from a species of the cannabis plant commonly referred to as hemp. Hemp is very similar to another species of cannabis – marijuana – but for one crucial distinction: it contains almost no THC, the psychoactive compound found in marijuana. In order to even be called hemp, the plant can contain no more than 0.3% THC, which is entirely too little to have any intoxicating effect whatsoever. In other words, CBD comes from hemp and hemp isn’t marijuana.

So there it is. You’re learning. It’s like freshman science all over again. And the good news is that everyone’s getting extra credit because now that we’re clear on what CBD is (say it with us: a safe, perfectly legal, non-intoxicating compound extracted from the non-intoxicating hemp plant), we can dive into what it might do for you.

It’s important to note here that even as CBD has stepped out of marijuana’s shadow much of the body of evidence surrounding the many therapeutic benefits of CBD has been anecdotal. The Food and Drug Administration has yet to back up the vast majority of claims made by CBD supporters, but the industry is booming and along with it, mounting claims by users and healthcare professionals that CBD is a safe and effective way to combat discomfort and illness and promote overall well-being. It’s all very promising, right?

But remember because Federal Regulation is limited, it’s crucial you shop smart for the CBD products that are right for you. Lack of regulation has resulted in a whole ton of producers making unverified claims and selling hack products to make a quick buck. This isn’t us. Streamline Hemp is your number one trusted source and works only with reputable CBD brands to provide you with the finest CBD products available.
